The Sauer Subsidy was created to honor Mallory Anne Sauer, whose courage, authenticity, and zest for life touched countless people. Throughout her journey with metastatic melanoma and Crohn’s Disease, Mallory used her voice to uplift others, reminding them to face their fears and embrace life fully. Wanting every patient to feel the same support she received, her family partnered with Ray of Hope to create a fund for those experiencing the greatest hardships. Today, seven grantees each month receive an additional $500 through the Sauer Subsidy, ensuring Mallory’s generosity continues to bring comfort and hope.
Each month, the Sauer Subsidy provides an additional $500 to seven Ray of Hope grantees facing the greatest hardship. Applications are carefully reviewed and scored by our committee, considering medical situation, financial strain, and personal circumstances. The seven patients with the highest overall need receive this added support.

After being diagnosed with cancer in 2015, while also battling severe Crohn’s Disease, Mallory decided to share her health stories in an effort to help others going through similar challenges encouraging readers to embrace their flaws and face their fears. Mallory became known for her courageous and honest postings.
